Klao Bell-Lewis is a professional communicator with training and experience in public relations, corporate communication, digital media, advertising, journalism, corporate social responsibility and project management. She has held leadership positions and has executed programmes at Jamaican, regional and international organisations such as: the COK Sodality Co-operative Credit Union,Guardian Life Ltd (a member of the Guardian Holdings Group), Digicel Jamaica, Scotiabank Jamaica, GraceKennedy, the Caribbean Development Bank and the Caribbean Cement Company. Her career in public relations was preceded by work as a reporter with the Sunday Gleaner and then editor for education issues at the Gleaner Company Ltd of Jamaica. The award-winning print journalist also produced and presented a Sunday magazine programme on community radio station ROOTS 96.1FM. Klao is a graduate of the University of Cardiff, Wales (which she attended as a Chevening Scholar) and of the University of the West Indies from which she earned a MA in International Public Relations (Hons) and a BA in Literatures in English (Hons), respectively. She is committed to lifelong learning and stays abreast of developments in her field as well as in other areas which enhance her effectiveness. This isevident in her earning and maintaining accreditations from the UK-based Chartered Institute of Public Relations (Chartered PR Practitioner) and the USA based Project Management Institute (Project Management Professional - PMP)®. With the belief that volunteerism is integral to development, she has lent her support over the years to the: Mustard Seed Communities, United Nations’ Volunteer Day Programme, Jamaican/American Friends of Jamaican Infirmaries, Jamaican Economy Project, Violence Prevention Alliance, Liberty Hall: The Legacy of Marcus Garvey and Table Tennis Jamaica. She has served on the Boards of the Portland Rehabilitation Management Organisation (a shelter for the homeless); the Project Management Institute’s Jamaica Chapter and Caribbean Management Consultancy Partners. She was among a group of 100 Jamaicans in the pioneering Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Jamaica Initiative (SWLJ) which was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She lives in Jamaica with her husband and two teenaged daughters who maintain a strong academic record while representing their country, club and school in table tennis.
